Eight is Great!

For his birthday (which was on a Saturday), our perpetual early riser requested that we awaken him at 6:30 a.m. (late for him) with New Year's party horns. 6:30 in the morning and party horns don't go together in my mind, but we love our son and wanted to indulge his request. His response was worth it. He was so excited to be awakened with a blast of sound on his 8th birthday. We started the day with Tyler's basketball game followed by the UT basketball game for Tyler and ended the day with a family party and a crowd of people.

Tyler tolerated a little interview of his favorite things on his birthday. Here are his responses to my questions:

Favorite sport: basketball
Favorite teacher: Ms. Bass (1st grade)
Favorite subject: geography
Favorite food: hamburger
Favorite friend: Ben Jones
Favorite color: blue
Favorite sports team: Texas
Favorite restaurant: Top Notch and Pok-e-Joes
Favorite vacation: Colorado
Favorite video game: Mario Kart

The Stampede

Tyler's basketball season just ended. His team, The Stampede, didn't win many games this season, but Tyler had a great year. While Tyler truly loves all sports, basketball has always been his favorite. It is also my favorite to watch. He has confidence in his play and is a leader on the court. This year, he had the opportunity to help a number of the other boys on his team improve as they had never played before and were quite timid at the beginning of the season. He played his all time best game on his birthday, scoring 13 points as well as making a number of rebounds and assists. Here are some pictures of him in action. We would have loved to win a few more games, but win or lose, the team made great strides this season.
