Hello Dolly, Goodbye South Padre

Yes, it is true. We were some of the unformtunate vacationers who were in South Padre the week Hurricane Dolly hit. We arrived Saturday ready for a week of adventure in the waves and pool coupled with relaxation too. At this stage in our life, the beach seems to be one of the few places where we can actually accomplish both of these things. The kids were beyond excited, and to be honest so were Kevin and I. Our first few days were so great. The water was unusually clear for any Texas beach, the weather perfect and we were in the company of friends. Then Monday came and the phone calls began - moms, sisters, friends all asking us to watch the weather and seriously consider what we would do if a storm was to come. By the time any of us really took the time to watch the weather it was late Monday night, Dolly was definitely on her way to greet us. Kevin and I looked at each other saying, "we are really leaving tomorrow." Tuesday morning, with a sunny blue sky, we made our final trip to the beach. While the sky was still bright, the water and waves gave a clear indication of something stirring up off the coast. For some reason, it was our least successful beach outing of the trip. Of course (not a surprise to those of you who know me well) I had yet to bring the camera down to the beach so I had to get pics before we left. I managed to get some with smiling kids in them even though there were a number of traumas that morning. After the beach, we had a quick swim in the pool until thunder forced us out and we were off to pack. One of the other families there offered to corral all the kids in their condo while we all packed. We were more than grateful and got to work packing. In the meantime the skies changed, it rained on and off, sometimes very hard. However, by the time we were headed over the causeway, it was only sprinkling. Not excited about the idea of going home days early, we decided to drive to the ranch for the night. Still a long drive, but at least if was a fun destination once we got there. Since we didn't leave the beach until mid afternoon, we didn't arrive at the ranch until about 8 that evening. We played for a little while and headed to bed. The next morning we watched the news and saw that it was a really good things we left SPI (although we never seriously considered staying). The footage we saw included severe damage of the Radisson which was right next door to our condo. From the ranch, we headed to the Lost Pines Resort so we could end our week of chaos in luxury. It was great for all of us! While this definitely was not the vacation we had planned, we enjoyed each phase of it and were thankful for the time together.

So happy to be here!

Tyler informed me today that this picture was when Megan was sitting in and Tyler was standing in a random hole in our little yard.

Remember Bomb-pops? They are still a big hit with the kids and with some nostalgic adults.

Megan's crush on Zach, the oldest Jones boy picked up right where it left off last year.

Megan and Charlie were together constantly and are very comfortable showing each other their true selves. They were both determined to have a turn with this particular bat.

We played quite a bit of baseball on the lawn. This must be when one of the dad's hit and all the kids are trying to catch the ball.

The beginnings of Dolly.
