Always an Adventure

We had quite a day yesterday. After a activity filled morning at church, we ran home to eat lunch to head out of town for the day. Kevin's parents recently bought some land and Megan and I had not yet seen it. So our family decided to go down their for the day with Kevin's parents (thankfully, we had two cars). We met Paul and cousins Andrew and Matthew there which was a great surprise for our kids. They all play so well together so Kevin and I were able to help get the house organized. We had been there a few hours and everyone was getting hungry. Kevin walked into the kid's room and just as the words were coming out of his mouth "please don't stand on the beds" Megan fell in between two beds. She started crying. Paul and I were in the other room and he asked whether that was Tyler or Megan. I said it was Megan and that she must actually be hurt because she was still crying. Then Kevin brings her into where I am and there was blood all around her eye. Thankfully, two of the three bloody areas were just from here wiping her eye. So, I wiped it off and we were able to see that she had a nice straight laceration on her eyelid that would most likely require stitches. We decided we would rather drive back to Austin than experience a small town ER. We left Tyler with Kevin's parents (yeah for two cars and wonderful grandparents!) and headed to children's hospital. On the drive Megan was unphased. She ate a huge dinner and was her happy self for the most part. She did get a little weepy when we discussed the doctor/hospital but all in all was content. Thankfully, the waiting room at Children's was not packed. However, anyone who questions the healthcare crisis just needs to go sit in an ER waiting room. Of all the kids in there, Megan was the ONLY child who was injured. All the rest were sick with very routine illnesses. We got called back relatively quickly and the Dr. said she would only need a few stitches. Eventually, he stitched her up and we headed home around 9:30 (I think). Given the excitement of the afternoon and evening, Megan was wired and didn't go to sleep until about 11. Tyler slept the whole drive home but woke up concerned about his sister when we got home. As a parent it was really moving to see how worried he was about Megan and how happy he was to see her and give her a hug and a kiss. Once awake, Tyler could not go back to sleep. He tried for hours, literally, but didn't actually fall back asleep until a little before 1 a.m.

With the lack of sleep and minor trauma of yesterday, I was prepared for today to be a disaster. However, all things considered, the kids did very well. You could tell they were sleep deprived but didn't seem to have the energy to throw fits. I am really thankful and exhausted myself. Hopefully, we will all sleep well tonight! I will try to post a picture of our sweet girl soon.
